I believe the use of technology is causing more problems than it is fixing when it comes to overcoming communication barriers in the health care system. The fast efficient caring method isn’t necessarily the best way to start the beginning stages of a healing therapeutic relationship. If nurses want to build a strong therapeutic relationship that is based on trust and understanding more time spent at the bedside of their patients is needed. This will allow the patient to feel more comfortable when they are at their most vulnerable.

Hi Amy,
I tend to side with your view regarding the potential blending of nursing, (which is supposed to be seen as a caring philosophy) and the likes of modern technology. There does not seem to be evidence of a nursing 'presence' when a monitor is prevailing as a third party in a nurse/patient relationship.
Ciao!
